35 Watt TDP Skylake CPU tested

Also includes DDR4 vs. DDR3 testing

And there we go again: a Chinese publication jumped the gun and published benchmark results on yet to be announced Intel processors. This time a low TDP Intel Core i5-6400T CPU has been put on a test bench and DDR4 vs. DDR3 testing has been conducted as well.

With the Core i5-6400T Intel is going to introduce a low TDP quadcore processor without hyperthrading. This particular processor CPU comes with a base clock set to 2.2 GHz and a Turbo clock of 2.8 GHz. The T-suffix indicates that this is a low power CPU with 35 Watts TDP. Apparently, as all Skylake processors, this one is also going to be manufactured using 14nm process technology.

The guys over at Beautyz had two motherboards from ECS at hands: The Q170-SF100 and the H110-SF100. This board features an LGA 1151 socket, an M.2 SSD slot, an HDMI/Display Port and a set of I/O ports. The most interesting difference between the two boards is that one supports DDR3 and the other DDR4.

Both boards were tested with Cinebench R15 and it turns out that the DDR3 version scores 417cb and the board that supports DDR4 pumps out 415 cb. What's interesting to see is that the scores are the other way round when looking at the OpenGL values. In this case the DDR3 config scored 36.69 fps and the setup with DDR4 manages 37.33 fps. This actually indicates that the iGPU benefits from DDR4 memory. The same shows when other games as well as 3DMark were tested. All results are higher when the DDR4 platform was used.

It's definitely interesting to see that the iGPU benefits from the DDR4 memory. We're certainly going to have a close look at this when we have the first samples in our hand and the NDA is over.
