AMD stops all Mantle API optimizations

To focus on DirectX 12 and Vulkan

AMD has stopped all optimizations for Mantle API on all current and future graphics cards and will focus on upcoming DirectX 12 and Vulkan.

According to a report from PC Gamer, AMD will still retain Mantle API support in its driver that will give certain performance improvements in games that support it, such as Battlefield 4, Thief, Sniper Elite III, and Star Citizen but will not publish any further optimizations from AMD.

AMD will focus on Microsoft's DirectX 12 API that is scheduled to launch with the Windows 10 OS expected later this month as well as Vulkan, a new OpenGL successor from Khronos Group.

AMD Mantle API was definitely a good way for AMD to show Microsoft the gains of a low-level API, something that DirectX 12 features. Earlier, AMD has already announced that its Graphics Core Next 1.1 and GCN 1.2 architectures will have full support for DirectX 12 and we are quite keen to seen what will Vulkan bring.
