Microsoft interested in buying AMD

Could use it for Xbox One, Lumia and Surface

According to a new report, it appears that Microsoft is also one of the companies interested in buying AMD.

There have been plenty of talk regarding AMD being sold to some other company including Samsung, Qualcomm and now Microsoft. According to a new report from Kitguru.net, Microsoft is quite interested in acquiring AMD, which does make sense since its Xbox One is powered by a custom APU made by AMD.

Microsoft also have a huge amount of cash, US $95.3 billion to be precise, which is more than enough to buy AMD at its US $1.81 billion market capitalization. According to earlier report, Microsoft pays US $100 for each Xbox One SoC made by AMD and with around 12.6 million units sold so far, Microsoft has already payed AMD around US $1.26 billion, and such acquisition will save Microsoft a lot of money.

Microsoft could use AMD for its Lumia smartphones as well as Surface tablets and any other future hardware devices but on the other hand, Microsoft does not need high-end graphics cards or the server CPUs, something that both Qualcomm and Samsung could use.

If this happens, Sony would have to pay Microsoft for every Playstation 4 APU, which could level the playfield between Sony and Microsoft on the console market but it also means that Sony could move to Intel, Nvidia or ARM for its next Playstation console, something that will be quite interesting to see.

In any case, there have been a lot of talk regarding AMD's acquisition by a couple of companies and where there is smoke there is certainly some fire.
