Nvidia officially announces the new GTX 980 Ti

US $649.99 priced GM200 graphics card

As earlier reports suggested, Nvidia has now officially announced its newest high-end graphics card, the Geforce GTX 980 Ti. Priced at US $649.99 and based on the well known 28nm GM200 GPU, the GTX 980 Ti will fit nicely between the Titan X and the GTX 980.

Based on a version of the 28nm GM200 GPU, the same one behind the GTX Titan X graphics, the GTX 980 Ti features 22 SMM units for a total of 2816 CUDA cores.

The rest of the GPU specifications include 176 TMUs and 96 ROPs, which also means it will also have 3MB of L2 cache. With clocks which are identical to the GTX Titan X, including 1000MHz base GPU and 1075MHz GPU Boost clocks as well as the same 384-bit memory interface, suggest that GTX 980 Ti should end up well below the GTX Titan X, which is not the case in published reviews.

Just as the GTX Titan X, the GTX 980 Ti also has a 250W TDP and needs 6-pin and 8-pin PCI-Express power connectors. It also comes with three DisplayPort, single HDMI and single DVI display output configuration and supports 4-way SLI.

While the Geforce GTX 980 Ti uses a version of a reference blower style cooler that we have also seen on the GTX Titan X, Nvidia already gave a green light to its partners for custom-versions, so there will be plenty of those as well.

In addition to launching the new Geforce GTX 980 Ti with a US $649.99 price tag, Nvidia has also cut down the price of the Geforce GTX 980, pulling it down to US $499.99, which makes it quite an interesting deal.
