Qualcomm Snapdragon 818 is a 10-core SoC

Deca-core incoming

While MediaTek has recently revealed some details regarding its deca-core MT6797 SoC it appears that Qualcomm is also on a similar path with Snapdragon 818 SoC.

While MediaTek's MT6797 SoC design features eight Cortex A53 cores, paired in two sets, and two Cortex A72 cores in the third set, Qualcomm has taken a similar approach, all in focus to split performance usage and limit power consumptions.

According to leaked information, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 818 SoC will feature four low-powered Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.2GHz, two Cortex A53 cores clocked at 1.6GHz and four Cortex A72 cores clocked at 2.0GHz.

While we still have no details regarding performance or power consumption on such design, for both MediaTek or Qualcomm, it does make sense, as this way you can limit performance to what you actually need, as low-power cores can take care of everything, while medium and high-power cores can kick in when needed.

Qualcomm's solution might be better when it comes to high-power tasks due to more Cortex A72 cores, but Mediatek could end up with a better power consumption.

Unfortunately, there are no details regarding any actual devices based on such SoCs so we will have to wait a bit longer before we see a deca-core based smartphone or tablet.
