New chinese VR headset

Project ANTVR

The virtual reality market will definitely have a bright future, and it looks like we can expect a few more reasonably priced products, instead of those big names that everybody already knows. It does not come as a surprise than, to discover a new Chinese project, the Project ANTVR.

The head of this project is a young student, Qin Zheng, who left his PhD to jump into the VR market. Does not he remind you of a certain Palmer Luckey?

This project is really ambitious, maybe more than the Oculus Rift or Sony's Morpheus. There are no special lenses to distort the images, just a Full HD 6-inch display. The headset is modular, and every component has its computing duties and all work on wireless which is really interesting. One of these components is a gun (which features position sensors) that also works as battery and a gamepad.

There is no camera to analyze movements, but there are twice as much sensors than the with the competition. The project is currently available on Kickstarter, and it already collected US $140.000 more than the $200.000 that was initially requested. An ANTVR Dev Kit can be bought for US $270, while the complete version with the gun/battery is out for US $470.
