Gigabyte has announced the official support for AMD's upcoming Kabini Athlon and Sempron APUs and launched two new motherboards based on AMD AM1 platform, the GA-AM1M-S2P and GA-AM1M-S2H.
According to Gigabyte, these new AM1 motherboards will feature a set of features and technologies which should separate them from the competition, including Gigabyte's RTC Clock IC and Ultra Durable 4 Plus components.
While upcoming Kabini APUs CMOS functions have been integrated in the APU, which means that removing the APU also means reverting the CMOS settings to factory defaults, Gigabyte has included a secondary RTC Clock IC which retains those CMOS settings. The new motherboards also feature Gigabyte's Ultra Durable 4 Plus components including All Solid Caps and Low RDS(on) MOSFETs as well as DualBIOS option and high ESD Protection for USB and LAN ports.
As far as the motherboards are concerned, the specifications are quite basic. The AM1M-S2P is more aimed at office use with its LPT and COM ports, D-Sub video output and legacy PCI slot, while the AM1M-S2H is more aimed at home use with HDMI output and two PCI-Express x1 slots.
In case you missed them earlier, AMD's newest AM1 platform Kabini Athlon and Sempron APUs integrate up to four CPU cores and feature Radeon R3 series GPU. They support Windows 8.1, AMD Mantle and DirectX 11.2 graphics and offer native support for 4K resolution displays through HDMI. The new AM1 platform also features native USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps support.
