Microsoft bringing back the Start Menu

This time officially

Back when Windows 8 was announced and launched, most liked the modern look of the Metro UI but also complained about the missing Start Menu and while they are certain apps that can bring it back, sort of at least, Microsoft has now announced, during its Build 2014 developer conference, that the Start Menu will be officially back.

The new Start Menu will not come as a part of the next Windows 8.1 update scheduled to come later this month but will rather be a part of a "future update" coming later this year. The new Start Menu looks like a mix between the Windows 7 one and the Window 8 tiles design.

It will be about the same size as the Windows 7 Start Menu but will also feature miniature Live Tiles along its side.

In addition to the new Start Menu, Microsoft also showcased a mode which will allow modern Windows 8 apps to run in the desktop environment inside their own windows. This move is practically the return to Windows 7 days and its roots and will certainly make most mouse and keyboards desktop users quite happy.

The new Start Menu will not replace the standard Start Menu Metro UI as that one will still be around for those rare ones which are using touch interface or actually like it and want it.
