During Game Developer Conference 2014, Crytek has not only showcased its new CryEngine but also joined a growing list of developers that signed their support for AMD's Mantle API.
While it was obvious from the announcement that the Mantle API support has not yet been integrated in the new CryEngine, the addition of a big name in gaming industry will surely work well for AMD's Mantle API. Since many games are made on CryEngine, bringing Mantle API support on engine side will certainly improve its position.
In addition to Mantle API support, Crytek has released two trailers which show the benefits of the new CryEngine as well as its improved shading, lightning, character rendering and animation in general. The second video shows what people actually made with the free SDK, which is even more impressive.
During GDC 2014, Chris Hook, AMD's Director of Public Relations, has noted that the company is definitely taking the SteamOS movement very seriously and currently running a study to determine how and when to bring Mantle API to Linux.
