Razer launches Mechanical Switches for Gaming

First mechanical switch from Razer

Razer has today announced its first mechanical switch, the new Razer Mechanical Switch. These are actually first mechanical switches that which were designed from ground up and solely for gaming purposes.

While mechanical switches were originally designed for typing, we can now see a lot of gaming keyboards which are switching to CherryMX mechanical switches. Unlike those, Razer's Mechanical Switch have been designed and engineered solely for gaming, which means that Razer went back and completely re-engineer the traditional mechanical switch.

According to Razer, the Mechanical Switches have been manufactured with ultra-precise manufacturing technique, feature gold plated contact points and have a lifespan of up to 60 million key strokes. Thanks to an extensive research, Razer says that it managed to find the optimal actuation distance for gaming mechanical switch which should provide best possible feel.

"Instead of focusing solely on typing comfort, as traditional mechanical switches have done, we had to completely rethink the conventional approach behind the actuation and reset points of mechanical switches in order to fine-tune them for gaming," says Min-Liang Tan, Razer co-founder, CEO and creative director. "Our engineers' focus for the specification was on speed, accuracy and durability to bring the unfair advantage to gamers worldwide. The new switch makes the most popular gaming keyboard in the world even better."

The new Mechanical Switches from Razer will be initially available on the new Razer BlackWidow gaming keyboard family. It will be available in two versions, the Razer Green switch which has tactile and clicky feel as well as the Razer Orange switch which is tactile but silent.
