MWC 2014: Sony announces Xperia M2 smartphone

4.8-inch quad-core mainstream smartphone

In addition to the Xperia Z2 flagship and the new Xperia Z2 Tablet, Sony has also unveiled its new mainstream smartphone, the Xperia M2.

Based around a 4.8-inch TFT screen with 960x540 resolution and based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 400 chipset with quad-core 1.2GHz based Cortex-A7 CPU part, Adreno 305 GPU and 1GB of RAM, the new Xperia M2 also comes with a rear 8-megapixel camera with Sony's Exmor RS sensor, LED flash and 1080p video recording capability, 8GB of internal storage expandable via microSD card slot, and standard WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC and 3G with HSPA connectivity.

The Xperia M2 runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and features a decent 2330mAh battery. It will be available in black, white and purple color options and should hit retail/e-tail shelves in April. Unfortunately, Sony still did not announce the price of the new Xperia M2 mid-range smartphone.
