Nvidia GM107 packs 128 CUDA cores per SM

Five streaming multiprocessors

Nvidia's upcoming GM107 GPU based on Maxwell GPU architecture features a slightly different CUDA cores and Stream Multiprocessors arrangement when compared to current Kepler architecture. According to a report from Videocardz.com, this is the new Streaming Multiprocessor Maxwell, or SMMs and the GPU will feature five of them, with 128 CUDAs per Stream Multiprocessor (SM).


In case you compare it to Kepler architecture GPUs, which had 192 CUDA cores per SMX, the GM107 features 128 CUDA cores per SMM, which adds up to 640 CUDA cores on the GM107, or five SMMs. Since the GTX 750 Ti will feature a fully enabled GM107 GPU, Nvidia might disable one of the SMMs for its GTX 750, leaving it at 512 CUDA cores.

Apparently, the GM107 will not be the only Maxwell based GPU built on 28nm manufacturing process, as Nvidia plans to also release the smaller GM108 as well, while the rest of the higher performing chips, including the GM206, the GM204 and the GM200, will wait for the next-generation 20nm manufacturing process.

In any case, it appears that Maxwell architecture is not similar to Kepler and we hope to see it in action pretty soon.
