Although EA/DICE has lived up to its promised and delivered the long awaited Mantle patch for the Battlefield 4 game, it appears that initial Catalyst 14.1 driver will only support four GPUs.


To be quite precise, the Catalyst 14.1 beta driver, which is also a bit delayed but should be available shortly, will only work with AMD's Radeon R9 290X, R9 290, R7 260X, and A-Series "Kaveri" APU GPU. The rest of the GPUs, including the R9 280X and R9 270X will have to wait a bit longer.

Interestingly, EA/DICE itself has released some performance numbers for Mantle on HD 7970, which are not half bad so we certainly hope that AMD will do its best to extend the Mantle API support to all the Graphics CoreNext GPUs as soon as possible.
