VMware environment with flash caching and virtualization

OCZ has published another white paper/technical brief regarding VMware vSphere flash read cache and OCZ VXL software in which it outlines the advanced features in OCZ VXL Software aimed to enable VMware environment with optimal choices in flash caching and virtualization.

VMware vSphere is one of the leading virtualization platforms for cloud infrastructures with powerful computing capabilities which allow server resources to be virtualized for allocating multiple application workloads and includes network services, storage, data protection and security, and uptime services (such as High Availability and Fault Tolerance), all designed specifically to enable an efficient, virtualized environment.

The latest 5.5 version of the vSphere brings generic read cache functionality with vSphere Flash Read Cache (vFRC) feature which enables utilization of introductory server-side flash caching and/or experiment with flash-based storage especially if their experience has been hard drive-centric, which is something where OCZ VXL software certainly can help.

Using the flash technology in VMware environment certainly increases overall performance levels and quality of service as well as making it more flexible in day to day tasks, securing data center uptime while simultaneously reducing cost and maintenance resources, as noted in the technical brief. With OCZ VXL software and VMware's vFRC feature enterprises and cloud providers are transforming the way that data is stored and handled in virtualized environments, and, according to OCZ, "OCZ’s VXL Software platform provides a complete set of flash virtualization and acceleration functionality designed to address the needs of enterprise workloads."
