Steam Machines definitely made quite a noise during Consumer Electronics Show 2014 in Las Vegas held earlier this month and Alienware's model was certainly one of the more interesting ones announced. Although most of Alienware pre-built systems are actually upgradeable, this will not be the case with Alienware Steam Machine.
The Alienware Steam Machine certainly caught a lot of attention and even Valve's Greg Coomer sad that it is the one that will serve the most customers and make the most Steam users happy but according to an interview from Alienware's General Manager Frank Azor over at TrustedReviews, the Alienware Steam Machine will not have any customization options and will not be upgradeable. He also noted that, while the life-cycle of consoles is five, six, seven years, Alienware's one for Steam Machine will be every year.
Frank Azor also noted that those looking for upgradeable living room PC should probably look to Alienware's X51 system, which is already more than enough to handle Steam OS, play some games at reasonable detail level and fully configurable and upgradeable.
