AMD has today announced the immediate availability of its new 12- and 16-core AMD Opteron 6300 series server CPUs designed for enterprise market, the AMD Opteron 6338P and AMD Opteron 6370P. Code named "Warsaw", the new AMD Opteron 6300 series feature Piledriver based CPU architecture and will be socket and software compatible with existing Opteron 6300 series CPUs.
The two new Opteron 6300 series models include the Optreon 6370P which packs 16 cores and works at base frequency of 2.0GHz with 2.5GHz Max AMD Turbo Core frequency, has 99W TDP and features support for quad-channel DDR3-1600 memory. AMD also launched the new AMD Opteron 6338P which has 12 cores, same 99W TDP with the same support for quad-channel DDR3-1600 and works at 2.3GHz base and 2.8GHz Max AMD Turbo frequencies.
"With the continued move to virtualized environments for more efficient server utilization, more and more workloads are limited by memory capacity and I/O bandwidth," said Suresh Gopalakrishnan, corporate vice president and general manager, Server Business Unit, AMD. "The Opteron 6338P and 6370P processors are server CPUs optimized to deliver improved performance per-watt for virtualized private cloud deployments with less power and at lower cost points."
According to AMD, both the AMD Opteron 6338P and the AMD Opteron 6370P CPU should be available via Penguin and Avnet system integrators and have been qualified for Sugon and Supermicro servers. The price is set at US $377 for the AMD Opteron 6338P and US $598 for the 16-core AMD Opteron 6370P.
