We now finally have total sales figures for both next generation game consoles from Microsoft and Sony for period before and including the Christmas holidays and it appears that Sony definitely won this round but it was not far from being a close call.
According to results, Sony managed to sell a total of 4.2 million worldwide sales while Microsoft just went across 3 million units. Of course, Microsoft is still limited by 13 countries, but to be fair, we guess that Sony's delivery was not that good either as many regions did not get the needed volume.
"The momentum of the PS4 system keeps getting stronger and we couldn’t be more thrilled that gamers worldwide are enjoying the incredibly immersive gaming experiences along with deep social capabilities and entertainment provided by our network ," said Andrew House, President and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment.
"It's been incredible to see Xbox One selling at a record-setting pace for Xbox, and we were honoured to see Xbox One become the fastest-selling console in the U.S. during our launch month in November," said Microsoft's Xbox corporate vice president Yusuf Mehdi.
In addition to the announcement regarding sale numbers, Sony also revealed a rather interesting new game stream service called the Playstation Now. It will allow users to stream and play a massive Playstation library on a wide array of hardware and it comes as result of earlier Sony purchase of Gaikai game streaming company.
According to Sony, the service is first coming to US this summer and will be available on PS4, PS3, PS Vita and 2014 Bravia TV models. In any case, this comes as a really welcomed announcement from Sony for many of users aiming to buy the Playstation 4 but are weeping about their massive PS3 library.
