In addition to the Kaveri APU, AMD has now officially announced and launched its R9 M200, R7 M200 and R5 M200 series mobile GPU lineup during Consumer Electronics Show 2014 in Las Vegas.
Although these GPUs sound new thanks to the R9, R7 and R5 naming scheme, the entire lineup are actually rebrands of Radeon HD 8000M and Radeon HD 7000M series graphics cards, including the AMD R9 M290X, the new flagship mobile GPU, which is simply the rebrand of the HD 8970M, which was also the rebrand of the HD 7970M.
As you can see from the slide below, AMD spread its new mobile lineup into three segments: Enthusiast, Performance and Mainstream. Currently, each of the segments include a single GPU with brand new naming scheme so enthusiast gets R9 M290X flagship, Performance will be represented by R7 M265 while Mainstream segment gets R5 M230 GPU. As you can also see, each segment will get at least one, if not more GPUs at a later date.
In any case, you will get the same old GPU and notebook manufacturers simply have to update the BIOS and make a new sticker. Hopefully, AMD will come up with a refresh soon. You can check out more specifications via link below.
