MSI shows R9 290X Lightning at CES 2014

AMD Hawaii XT GPU behind TriFrozr cooler

We already heard and seen that MSI is working on the R9 290X Lightning graphics card and it looks like it was ready for showcase at CES 2014.

Based on AMD's Hawaii XT GPU with 2816 Stream Processors paired up with 4GB of GDDR5 memory with 512-bit memory interface, the MSI R9 290X Lightning will certainly be the cream of the crop when it comes to R9 290X graphics cards.

Although the precise clocks are still unknown we are quite sure that we will see at least a decent factory-overclock, while the overclocking potential should be quite impressive as well. Thanks to earlier leaked PCB shots, we know that it packs 12+3+2-phase VRM design and needs 8+8+6-pin PCI-Express power connectors. It will packs Pure Digital PWM and have on-board LEDs which will show the real-time power load.

The crown jewel of the R9 290X is definitely the dual-slot triple-fan TriFrozr cooler. With yellow/black color scheme, three fans and a large heatsink, this one will definitely keep the Hawaii XT GPU well cooled and provide some impressive noise/performance values.

Unfortunately, MSI did not shed any light regarding the actual price or the availability date of the new R9 290X Lightning graphics card.
