MSI R9 290X Lightning PCB gets pictured

Needs 6+8+8-pin PCI-Express power connectors

We already knew that MSI was working on both the GTX 780 Ti and the R9 290X versions that will be a part of their high-end Lightning series and now we have a first picture of what appears to be the final version of the R9 290X Lightning PCB.

Although we are sure that the MSI GTX 780 Ti Lightning will be the first one to launch, the R9 290X Lightning PCB picture is the first one that showed up online. According to Videocardz.com, it is obvious that we are looking at the R9 290X considering that we are missing Crossfire connectors and it actually has the same memory arrangement as the original R9 290X.

According to the picture, the MSI R9 290X Lightning will end up with 12+3+2-phase VRM design and need two 8-pin and single 6-pin PCI-Express connector for power. The PCB looks a lot like the earlier released GTX 480 Lightning which used the 6-pin PCI-Express power connector solely for the memory.

Judging from the picture MSI also included V-Check points and we are quite sure that we will see even more unique features which are usually reserved for the MSI Lightning series graphics cards. Display output lineup includes two DVI ports, HDMI and DisplayPort outputs.

According to our sources close to the company, we can also expect some neat surprises when it comes to the Twin Frozr cooler that will cool the new generation of the Lightning graphics cards.

According to Videocardz.com, the MSI R9 290X Lightning is scheduled to be released early next year.
