Gigabyte expected to perform exceptionally in 2013

Motherboard shipments looking good

According to a report over at Digitimes.com, Gigabyte is expected to perform exceptionally well in the past year, at least in terms of motherboard shipments. In 2012, Gigabyte managed to ship around 19 million units, trailing its rival ASUS, which ended the year with 22 million, but this year Gigabyte might do really well with expected 21 million units by year's end.

According to earlier reports, Gigabyte managed to ship a total of 17.5 million units between January and October this year, and if all goes well and according to projected estimates, it could end the year with around 21 million units. This will be a new highest volume for Gigabyte in the company's quite long 28 year history.

Asus managed to ship out 15.5 million units in first three quarters and already expects to ship out addition 5 million in Q4. In this scenario, Gigabyte might be able to squeeze its way to first place. Gigabyte usually did contract-manufactured motherboards for other brands as well, but according to reports, it appears that company had almost no such contracts lately, focusing solely on its own channel brand.

This year was definitely good for Gigabyte, and despite reports that PC industry is not doing well, it appears that there are quite a few stars shining on the PC sky.
