iBuyPower has released two prototype AMD-based Steam machines that will apparently be presented at the next year Consumer Electronics Show (CES) scheduled to kick off on January 7th. iBuyPower did not release much details but it did note that we will be seeing two versions, quite cleverly named Gordon and Freeman and aims at US $499 price tag.

According to the released details caught by the Verge, the upcoming iBuyPower AMD-based Steam Machines will be based on yet to be revealed AMD chip, most likely APU from the Kaveri lineup as well as the Radeon R9 270 graphics cards. In terms of size, iBuyPower claims that its white box will be bigger than Playstation 4 but smaller than Microsoft's Xbox One. It will also have some sort of user customizable LED light strip all around the box which looks kinda neat.

More interestingly, iBuyPower aims to squeeze everything, including the Steam controller, WiFi, Bluetooth and a 500GB HDD, into a US $499 price tag. According to iBuyPower, the existing lineup of Steam for Linux games will run at 1080p and 60fps, which is quite an achievement and a rather expected stab at recent Playstation 4 titles which did not run at 1080p from day one.

We will surely keep an eye on iBuyPower during CES 2014 as Gordon and Freeman certainly look interesting.
