Phablet quite popular according to IDC

According to a fresh report from IDC, phablets, or smartphone with a 5- to 7-inch screens, are becoming quite popular as they have accounted for a total of 21 percent of smartphone market in Q3.

According to IDC, the phablet market has grown 18 percent when compared to the last year. While Samsung, LG, HTC, Nokia and Huawei have joined the race in the big screen market, it is not a surprise that the Q3 2013 market share for phablets has grown from 3 to 21 percent.

The phablet market has not been quite popular among reviewers and mainstream media and even Apple has barely touched the phablet market, but according to IDC, the demand is certainly there and Samsung surely has the lead.

IDC third quarter report shows that 211.6 million smartphones were shipped during Q3 2013. Android share jumped over 80 percent of the market share while the entire smartphone market grew by 39.9 percent year-over-year.
