Eric Schmidt says Android is more secure than iPhone

Quite a statement to make

Google's Eric Schmidt has been quite known for its interesting and rather controversial public statements and his last one, during Gartner Symposium/ITxpo where he noted that Android might be even more secure than iPhone, definitely got a lot of attention.

Responding to a question from Gartner analyst David Willis in which he pointed out that Google Android is not generally used as a main platform considering that it is not secure, Schmidt responded that Android is more secure than the iPhone. While it drew smiles across many faces in the audience, Schmidt did not give any explanation but rather just pointed out to Android's more than a billion activations.

The main security concern with Android is actually the lack of upgrades for many Android devices which puts them at a malware risk but than again we honestly had no problems with it considering we were sticking to "official" applications.

Schmidt also discussed some other topics including future of email, consumers' privacy expectations, and the future of of Google's Now in the enterprise where he noted that "You will be happier with Gmail, Chrome and Android more than you can possibly imagine."
