Samsung plans curved screen smartphones

Coming in October

During the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 launch even in Seoul, South Korea, Samsung's representative has spilled some info to the BBC regarding company plans to launch new smartphones with curved OLED display sometimes in October. The event was also a great opportunity to announce tha its flagship Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Gear smartwatch will be available in 58 countries as of today.

The info comes from Samsung's head of strategic marketing for mobile, DJ Lee, which noted to BBC that the company plans to introduce a smartphone with a curved display in South Korea in October. Unfortunately, it did not reveal any additional details but since Samsung is actually one of the first companies to go for curved or even flexible display technology, the announcement does not come as a big surprise.

According to an analyst from CCS Insight, these smartphones could be a part of Samsung's Active lineup and curved screen could be apart of rugged feature of the smartphone.

Samsung was also quite please to announce that its Galaxy Note 3 phablet as well as the Galaxy Gear smartwatch will be available on retail/e-tail shelves in 58 countries as of today.
