In addition to the new iOS 7, budget-friendly iPhone 5C, Apple has also announced the new flagship smartphone, the iPhone 5S. Powered by the all new and world's first consumer ARM-based 64-bit smartphone SoC, the iPhone 5S will feature the same 4-inch size Retina screen but pack a better camera as well as some quite unique features.
As noted, the heart of the new iPhone 5S is the all new Apple A7 SoC, the first 64-bit smartphone ARM-based SoC that features a dual-core CPU and better GPU. Packing over 1 billion transistors on a on a 102mm2 die, the new chip will offer twice the performance in both CPU and GPU department, according to Apple, and even bring support for the OpenGL ES 3.0 that will be best demonstrated in the Infinity Blade III game that will launch alongside it. It will, of course, run on the new iOS 7 OS.
In addition to the new Apple A7 SoC, the iPhone 5S will also pack the Apple M7 Motion co-processor", which handles motion-sensing and monitors data from the accelerometer, gyroscope and compass without and offload the main A7 SoC as well as offer much less strain on the battery.
Based upon a 7.6mm thick case with 112 grams of weight, the new iPhone 5S is pretty much in line with the discontinued iPhone 5. As noted, the new iPhone 5S is based on the same 4-inch 1336x640 Retina screen as well as the same 8-megapixel rear camera which got a 15 percent bigger sensor, better optics and a wider f/2.2 aperture lens. The camera is paired up with a new dual LED flash called the True Tone. This one should provide much better and more accurate color tones by calculating which flash, since they are based on different color temperatures, needs to go off and how much in order to get the best picture. It also has the front 720p camera for voice calling.
As rumored earlier, the new iPhone 5S also packs the Touch ID, touch sensor behind its Home button, which is essentially a fingerprint reader that supports multiple fingerprints and eventually replace the security passcode lock.
The new iPhone 5S will also bring a new gold back color option, in addition to standard black and white ones, so the new iPhone 5S will be available in Space Gray (Black+Gray back), Gold (White+Golden back), and Silver (White+Silver back) color combinations.
As it is the case with the iPhone 5C, the new iPhone 5S will also launch in selected regions on September 20th with a US $199, $299 and $399 price tags on a two-year contract, depending on whether you want the 16, 32 or 64GB version.
