Massive fire hits SK Hynix Fab in China

To affect NAND flash prices

A massive fire broke out at SK Hynix production facility in Wuxi, China and although there is no precise info, the accident will definitely have an impact on NAND flash prices.

While first pictures and videos of the fire have appeared online, there is no official announcements from company or the local authorities but considering that the pictures show a great volume of smoke it is doubtful that we will see a minor damage report. Similar fire has hit SK Hynix manufacturing facility in Korea back in 2008 and since this one focuses more on NAND flash rather than DRAM, the prices of DRAM memory should not be affected but we would not say the same for NAND flash.

Since most, if not all new devices like smartphones and tablets actually use NAND flash it is quite possible that we will see a rise in prices all across the range. Hopefully, the extent of the damage will not be severe and we certainly hope that there will be no reported injuries, let alone fatal ones.
