Stephen Elop is candidate for Microsoft CEO

Not really a big surprise

As it was quite clear and expected now that Microsoft bought Nokia's Devices and Services business and that Stephen Elop has stepped down from the position of CEO at Nokia, Steve Ballmer, current CEO of Microsoft confirmed that same Stephen Elop is a candidate for future Microsoft CEO.

In an interview with The Seattle Times, Microsoft's soon-to-be-former CEO, Steve Ballmer, confirmed that Stephen Elop will be running for the position of Microsoft CEO. In case you missed it earlier, Microsoft and Nokia have announced a deal that should be finalized in Q1 2014 where Microsoft will buy Nokia's Devices and Services division and patents for a cool US $7.1 billion and pick up 32,000 Nokia employees, including Stephen Elop that will switch to an executive vice president position at Microsoft, something that he is quite familiar with.

Of course, Microsoft's board will have a final decision and will continue to look all external and internal candidates for the job.
