Radeon HD 7990 Malta gets a price cut

Now goes against the GTX 780

In order to make the HD 7990 Malta based dual-GPU graphics cards a bit more competitive on the market, AMD's add-in-board (AIB) partners have slashed the price down to US $699 which puts it in direct competition with the Nvidia GTX 780.

While this card was generally retailing for around US $1,100 to $1,200, the Radeon HD 7990 dual-GPU graphics cards are now down to US $699.99. At Newegg.com, the various AIB Radeon HD 7990 graphics cards are now priced anywhere between US $699.99 and US $789.99. AMD recently release a new driver that was definitely a move in the right direction when it comes to dealing with the micro-stuttering problem and with recent Crossfire profiles it can certainly go against, now already higher priced, GTX Titan and GTX 690 graphics cards.

In case you missed it, the AMD Radeon HD 7990 features two 28nm fully enabled Tahiti GPUs for a total of 4096 stream processors and 6GB of GDDR5 memory (3GB per GPU). The GPUs are working at 950MHz base and 1000MHz Boost clocks and while 6GB of GDDR5 memory paired up with 2x384-bit memory interface ended up clocked at 6000MHz.

Of course, it is important to note that the Radeon HD 7990 still comes with a Never Settle bundle that features eight top titles that have a resale value of around US $100.

We are currently seeing the same move in Europe as well where HD 7990 graphics cards are dropping from usual €950+ down to around €700, while Mindfactory.de even lists the XFX Radeon HD 7990 for as low as €599,75.

It appears that we are on the verge of yet another price war between AMD and Nvidia as AMD just made its move.
