Intel pushes mobile sector

Desktop CPU

Last Friday Intel's new CEO announced, that the company will speed up rollout of new chips for smartphones, tablets and wearable devices. Intel wants to take the same path like consumers and come to a point where desktop processors are less important.

Best case, Intel will come to a point where Atom processors bring more money then today's desktop processors. Intel wants to reach this goal by improving the energy efficiency of their Atom processors and by doing so the want to win more market share. So far Intel scored a big design win when looking at Samsung's new Galaxy Tab 3 tablets, which feature Intel's Clover Trail chips.

Already in 2016 the revenue generated by Intels mobile sector may reach the target of 3.7 billion US-Dollar, at least if we believe a report from RBC. These days annual revenue of the Intel's mobile sector is at 380 Million US-Dollar. Later this year Intel will launch their new Silvermont processors and after that Airmont is to follow.
