The rate at which rumors on Coffee Lake are making it through these days is quite impressive. It’s not been long ago that we’ve last written about alleged clock speeds of Intel’s upcoming 6-core mainstream processors and already today we find new information from a user in the Anandtech forums.


According to the latest rumors the upcoming Intel Core i7-8700K is supposed to reach up to 4.7 GHz clock speed, when only one single core is under load. Compared to the current Core i7-7700K this is a 200 MHz increase. Apart from that the maximum Turbo clock when all cores are under full load is supposed to be 4.3 GHz. Interestingly the Core i7-8700 has a 500 MHz lower base clock - 3.2 GHz versus 3.7 GHz -but the max Turbo frequency when all cores are under load is the same.

According to what’s known so far Coffee Lake is going to fit in the current Socket LGA1151 but it’s entirely unclear whether this chip will require a new chipset or if it can be combined with motherboards which are based on 100- or 200- series chipsets. With these specifications Coffee Lake is going to be a very serious competitor to AMD’s Ryzen 7 line-up and we’re curious to find out how those new chips are going to perform.
