Intel Coffe Lake specifications leaked

Four six core processors

Judging by the sheer number of rumors, that are surfacing these days regarding the upcoming Intel mainstream desktop processors, we’re closing in on the launch of these new parts. This time it’s again CPCHardware leaking information including clock speeds, TDPs and core counts.

The leaked informations show a few more details on the Coffe Lake family, which will contain four six core CPUs. Since both CPUs belong to the mainstream series, they might pack integrated graphics units as we know it from Kaby Lake and earlier generations. Looking at the chips more in detail the pack is led by the Core i7-8700K, followed by the Core i7-8700, the Core i5-8600K and the Core i5-8600. All Core i7 chips have Hyperthreading on board, enabling 12 logical cores. In terms of performance the upcoming i7 processors should be quicker than Intel’s Core i7 Haswell-E six core chips. Compared to Kaby Lake, Coffee Lake processors come with lower clock speeds, which means that these CPUs might deliver a little less performance when it comes to single-threaded performance.

The Core i7-8700K will feature six cores and twelve threads with a base clock of 3.7GHz. This chip might come with 12MB of L3 cache and a TDP of 95W. Intel might also release a non-K version of this chip, which is allegedly supposed to run at 3.2GHz, which significantly less than what the K-series achieve. Furthermore Intel might release two Core i5 with six cores. The first one should be called Core i5-8600K and it packs 9MB of L3 cache and a base clock speed of 3.6GHz. In addition there will be a lower clocked i5-8600 processor which should feature a base clock of 2.8GHz. Both CPUs lack Hyperthreading.

In the case of Coffee Lake it’s still unknown what core-to-core interconnection method is going to be used by Intel. Intel might use their new “Mesh” architecture (the one used on Skylake-X) again but there are also chances that the ring bus architecture is going to be put in place for these chips. According to the latest rumors, Coffee Lake is supposed to bring a new chipset to the table, which goes by the name Z370. However other sources reported that Coffee Lake might work on Z270-based motherboards as well after updating the BIOS. As always these are all rumors therefore we suggest to take this information with a grain of salt and patiently wait until Intel clears things up.
