NVMe capable SSDs are growing increasingly popular these days, offering much higher transfer speeds than the usual SATA drive. New markets always offer new opportunities and that on the other hand means that different vendors will launch new products. During the Computex 2017, ADATA has shown two new M.2 NVMe SSDs which are designed to offer a competitive price/performance ratio.


The budget oriented XPG SX6000 is based on Realtek's RTS5760 controller and uses 3D TLC NAND flash memory without DRAM caching. Talking about performance, sequentially reading this drive should hit up to 800MB/s and 850MB/s in the case of sequential writes. This may not be the fastest NVMe SSD on the market but it’s still substantially faster than all existing SATA SSDs which are usually limited to 550 MB/s.

The SX7000 NVMe SSD is based on Silicon Motion's SMI2262G controller and comes in combination with 3D NAND flash memory and DRAM caching. Performance wise, the SX7000 will offer sequential write speeds, which are similar to the SX6000 but reading it will be more than twice as fast. In other words, the SX7000 can hit up to 1'800MB/s in the case of sequential reading and 850MB/s in the case of sequential writes.

All the drives are backed by a 5 years of warranty plan and they are available with 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB capacity. So far ADATA has not revealed any details on pricing and availability regarding their SX6000 and SX7000 SSD series.
