Gigabyte already has a wide portfolio when it comes to motherboards but that didn’t stop them from teasing yet another model. The new board is going to belong to the Designare series. Their Designare line has been first shown in combination with Intel Z170 and X99 chipsets.
The Z270X Designare features a silver PCB with covers that complement NVIDIA’s Founders Edition/reference GPU designs. Since the Designare motherboards usually are flagship models within Gigabyte’s lineup we don’t believe Gigabyte will make an exception regarding Intel Z270 chipset. Unlike the previous model based on Intel Z170 chipset, the new Gigabyte Z270X Designare features RGBW lighting.
Having a more detailed look at the board we see three PCIe Gen 3.0 x16 slots with steel reinforcements and three PCIe x1 slots. Between the first and the second full-sized PCIe slot there are two slots distance providing plenty of space for graphics cards to breathe in the case of multi-GPU setups. On the storage side we see two M.2 slots and the one placed at the top part of the motherboard is compatible with 22110 form factor M.2 SSD, which means drives with a maximum length of 110 millimeters can be used. Compared to the predecessor there aren't many differences besides design and lighting.
Looking for additional features we don't find onboard buttons and a debug display. One of the most important upgrades compared to the earlier Designare series boards is the RGBW (as Gigabyte calls it) lighting. This motherboard will come with an RGBW LED header, which will allow you to connect LED strips directly to the board and control them using Gigabyte’s own software. While it’s quite hard to make normal RGB LEDs shine in a clean white color, RGBW strips solve this issue with a set of dedicated white LEDs.
Last but not least let's talks about the external connectors. On the rear I/O-panel Gigabyte equipped the Z270X Designare motherboard with a P/S2 connector, three USB 3.1 ports, two USB 3.0 ports, one Gigabit Ethernet port as well as an analogue audio panel with optical out. Furthermore we also find one HDMI and one DVI port.
At the moment the Gigabyte Z270X Designare is not yet listed but we are quite confident that the price will be somewhere around 220-250 Euro.
