Micron brands 3D XPoint memory as QuantX

Competition to Intel

During its keynote speach at Flash Memory Summit, Micron has unveiled its own branding for the 3D XPoint memory, the Micron QuantX.

Meant as the counterpart to Intel's Optane brand, which is also based on 3D XPoint memory, the Micron QuantX will power NVMe storage products coming later this year. As you already know, the first products based on the 3D XPoint memory will be NVMe SSDs.

According to provided details during Flash Memory Summit, Micron noted that it will have completely separate and distinct marketing plans and focus on data center applications.

According to Micron, QuantX SSDs will offer up to ten times better latency in both read and write performance compared to the standard NAND-based SSDs. Showing the performance details, Micron displayed QuantX SSDs ranging from 200GB to 1600GB, offering significant performance compared to the standard NAND SSDs.

We will probably hear more about Micron's QuantX 3D XPoint based SSD as we draw closer to the end of this year.
