Samsung has pushed the SSD capacity range even further by finally releasing the 4TB version of the well known Samsung 850 EVO SSD.
Doubling the capacity by using the new 48-layer 256Gbit V-NAND, Samsung's new 4TB version of the 850 EVO SSD will "deliver unsurpassed performance, reliability and capacity", according to Samsung.
The sequential performance of the new 4TB version is set at 540MB/s for read and 520MB/s for write while random 4K performance hits 98,000 IOPS for read and 90,000 IOPS for write. This is pretty much in line with previously available 500GB, 1TB and 2TB versions which is definitely a good thing.
The Samsung 850 EVO 4TB also comes with earlier available TCG Opal and Microsoft eDrive data encryption, TurboWrite SLC cache technology and over-provisioning for garbage collection and wear leveling in order to prevent performance degradation over time.
High-capacity SSDs come at a price and Samsung 850 EVO 4TB is not an exception with its MSRP set at US $1499. It is still backed by a five-year warranty and comes with a 300TB write endurance rating.
While the price might seem high, it is pretty much the same price per GB that you would pay for a Samsung 850 EVO 2TB model.
