While the MSI Geforce GTX 1080 Gaming X ruled supreme in the MSI GTX 1080 lineup, MSI's newest Gaming Z Edition has now been detailed and comes with even higher clocks and an RGB backplate.
The new MSI GTX 1080 Gaming Z will still be using MSI's recognizable dual-fan Twin Frozr VI cooler and comes with a custom PCB with 10-phase VRM, drawing power from 8+6-pin PCIe power connectors and Military Class 4 components. Another update is the RGB LED lit backplate which makes it different from the Gaming X, which had a standard non-lit backplate.
The MSI GTX 1080 Gaming Z also comes with slightly higher GPU clocks, set at 1771MHz for the GPU base and 1911MHz for the GPU Boost clock. This is just over 60 MHz faster than the Gaming X version in its highest OC Mode, which worked at 1708MHz for the GPU base and 1847MHz for the GPU Boost clocks.
The 8GB of GDDR5X memory will probably still be running at 10,108 in OC Mode, just like on the GTX 1080 Gaming X version.
