Although we already knew most of the specifications thanks to the leaked GPU-Z screenshot, today we have some of the first performance details for the upcoming Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060, in terms of 3DMark Firestrike performance, where the GTX 1060 is faster than the RX 480.
As detailed earlier, the upcoming Geforce GTX 1060 is based on GP106 GPU and packs 1280 CUDA cores. While we did not know the precise specifications, the leaked benchmark results also include a GPU-Z screenshot showing that it comes with 106 TMUs and 48 ROPs while the GPU works at 1506MHz base and 1709MHz GPU Boost clocks.
The 3GB or 6GB of GDDR5 memory will run at 2002MHz (8.0GHz effective) and paired up with a 192-bit memory interface, add up to 192GB/s of total memory interface.
When it comes to performance, the Geforce GTX 1060 is around 8 to 10 percent faster than the Radeon RX 480, its main competition on the market. In 3DMark Firestrike benchmark, the Geforce GTX 1060 scores 11225 points, while in 3DMark Firestrike Ultra, it gets 3014 points. This puts it ahead of the RX 480, which gets around 10500 in 3DMark Firestrike and around 2800 points in 3DMark Firestrike Ultra benchmarks.
Bear in mind that these results are coming from a 6GB version GTX 1060 graphics card, are probably done with early drivers and are still unofficial results, so things might change a bit.
There are still no details regarding the price but earlier rumors suggest that it could launch with a price starting at US $249, which will put a lot of pressure on AMD. The Nvidia Geforce GTX 1060 is expected to launch in a couple of days with retail availability expected a week after.
