2.2GHz on air
It appears that Nvidia Geforce GTX 1080 has plenty of room for overclocking as a custom Galax GTX 1080 got overclocked to a rather impressive 2.5GHz on LN2 and 2.2GHz just on air.
According to a post from Nordichardware.com, which managed to spend some time with a well known overclocked Mad Tse, the reference GTX 1080 is not actually limited with 8-pin PCIe connector, but rather different components and locked BIOS as well as lower possible voltage.
According to Mad, the Galax GTX 1080 custom graphics card managed to reach 1.3V, which was not possible on the reference version but he is still confident that reference ones come with some sort of locked BIOS.
He actually managed to push the Galax GTX 1080 HOF at Computex 2016 show to 2.2GHz on air and 2.5GHz on LN2, which is a great result.
It appears that the upcoming custom GTX 1080 versions will bring some rather impressive overclocking results so we can't wait to see them in action.
