Nvidia reports good Q1 FY2017 results

With US $1.3 billion revenue

Nvidia has release its financial report for the first quarter of fiscal 2017, with revenue hitting US $1.3 billion, which is a a 13 percent improvement over the same quarter last year.

Nvidia has reported a strong growth in all segments and has reported a revenue of US $1.3 billion, up by 13 percent compared to the same quarter last year. The revenue is also higher than US $1.26 billion projected at the end of the last quarter.

Nvidia also reported an operating income of US $245 million and net income of US $196 million, up by 39 and 46 percent compared to the same quarter last year. The gross margin was at 57.5 percent, up by 0.8 percent compared to the Q1 FY2016.

While all segments of the company reported a strong growth, most of the revenue came from GPU sales and the gaming market. The GPU sales hit US $1.08 billion, which is up by 15 percent compared to the same quarter last year.

Nvidia also reported a high growth in both automotive segment with US $113 million, up by 47 percent compared to the same quarter last year while datacenter business, which includes Tesla and GRID, hit US $143 million, up by 63 percent from the same quarter last year.

Nvidia expects an increase in revenue for its next quarter as well, projecting US $1.35 billion with a gross margin of 57.7 percent. This does not come as a surprise considering that the company has just launched its new Pascal-based Geforce graphics cards which are looking good and pretty much have no competition in the high-end GPU market.
