According to a new report, ASUS is apparently working on an add-in-card that will add Thunderbolt 3 support on its motherboards and will be based on Intel's Alpine Ridge controller.
According to a report from BenchLife, the new add-in-card from ASUS will include one USB Type-C port, one USB Type-A port, an HDMI 2.0 and two mini DisplayPort outputs. The add-in-card should be both sold separately as well as bundled with some of the future motherboards.
This is not the first time that ASUS has come up with an add-in-card solution as it already has USB 3.1 and Thunderbolt II add-in-cards.
Earlier, Gigabyte already announced that it will offer a lineup of Intel Z170-based motherboards with Alpine Ridge controller while ASUS will stick to ASMedia USB 3.1 controller on its motherboards, as it owns a part of the company, and will use an add-in-card to provide Thunderbolt 3 support.
