IDC has released its latest fourth quarter 2015 report on PC shipments, reporting a drop of 10.6 percent in Q4 2015, compared to the the same quarter last year.
According to the report, total shipments were in line with earlier expectations with a total of 71.9 million units in Q4 2015. This is also the largest decline in recent history, surpassing a decline of 9.8 percent in 2013.
According to IDC, the PC market still faces challenges from longer PC lifecycles and competition from other segments of the market, like smartphones and tablets but biggest reasons behind such a drop can be seen in various economic issues as well as the OS market, which brought Windows 10 OS as a free upgrade and further postponed the upgrade cycle.
When it comes to manufacturers, Lenovo still holds the first place with 21.4 percent of the market share, closely followed by HP 19.9 percent. Dell holds the third place with 14.1 percent and ASUS and Apple share the fourth place with 7.9 percent.
IDC expects that PC market will rebound in 2016 with users getting on board the upgrade cycle due to security and performance issues.
