It appears that Oculus has prepared a rather nice surprise, giving away free final version Kickstarter Edition Rift VR headsets to original Oculus Rift development kit backers.

While the rest of the world is eagerly awaiting for pre-orders to open today, January 6th, original backers of the first Oculus Rift development kit, will be getting a free Kickstarter Edition of the final version, according to the announcement from Oculus.

Those Kickstarter backers will only have to complete a Kickstarter survey and provide a valid shipping addres to one of the 20 countries that the Rift VR headset will be launched. Those that are out of luck and are not in those 20 countries are not out of luck as Oculus said that they are working on "an alternative thank you".

We still do not have a precise price of the Oculus Rift VR headset but the company has promised it will give more details as soon as pre-orders go live later today.
