According to the latest report, Micron is preparing GDDR6 memory, which will offer twice the bandwidth of GDDR5 memory and be company's answer to High Bandwidth Memory from Hynix.
According to a report from Fudzilla.com, the GDDR6 memory will bring memory bandwidth of between 10 and 14Gbps, which is double the memory bandwidth of 4Gb GDD5, peaking at 7Gbps.
According to the same report, GDDR6 will be quite popular due to its similarity with GDDR5, reducing the complexity of design and manufacturing.
Hynix High Bandwidth Memory offers significant performance improvements but short supply and the fact that HBM 2.0 is coming, could make the GDDR6 memory a bridge between two memory technologies. While there are still quite a few unknowns, some sources suggest that GDDR6 is actually a rebranded GDDR5X memory, which was detailed earlier this year.
All of this could mean that GDDR6 and GDDR5 could be used on mid-range and low-end graphics cards while HBM2 could focus on high-end performance graphics cards.
