Nvidia working on high refresh rate power draw fix

Issue to be fixed with an upcoming driver

The problem with a high power draw on high refresh rate issue observed by PC Perspective on Nvidia Geforce GTX 980 Ti earlier will be fixed with an upcoming driver, according to Nvidia.

We already wrote about an issue on Geforce GTX 980 Ti graphics card that PC Perspective noticed during the review of ASUS ROG Swift P27799Q 165Hz G-Sync monitor, where the power consumption went up from 76.6W to 201W when running at 165Hz and 1440p resolution. The same issue was not noticed on AMD R9 Fury GPU at refresh rates above 144Hz.

According to the latest update, Nvidia has responded to PC Perspective saying that the issue has been noted and will be fixed with an upcoming driver release. The issue was with how GPU handles clocks with G-Sync monitor on very high refresh rates and it appears that Nvidia found a way to fix that bug.

It is always good to see that Nvidia did not simply ignore the issue, despite the fact that it is currently limited to a few monitor that can hit 165Hz at 1440p, but nevertheless, the issue will be fixed.
