Nvidia might also use GDDR5X memory with Pascal GPUs

Both HBM2 and GDDR5X

According to latest rumors, Nvidia might decide to use both GDDR5X and HBM2 memory on its next-generation graphics cards based on Pascal architecture.

While we already heard rumors that Nvidia is internally testing its new Pascal architecture, latest rumors suggest that it might actually be using both the GDDR5X memory, a successor to GDDR5 memory, as well as gen2 High Bandwidth Memory (HBM2).

According to a new report, the GP100 GPU will be the fully enabled high-end GPU that will most likely end up in new GTX Titan and Tesla/Quadro graphics cards while the GP104 version will be the first consumer Geforce graphics cards.

While it is clear that Nvidia will use HBM2, latest rumor coming from 3DCenter.org suggests that GDDR5X memory might be used on the next-generation consumer Geforce graphics card, while HBM2 might be limited to high-end Titan and Tesla/Quadro graphics cards.

A successor of the GDDR5 memory, the GDDR5X, will keep the same 256-bit memory interface currently used on the GTX 980 graphics card but feature an increased memory bandwidth of 448GB/s, higher than any AMD non-Fiji based HBM-equipped graphics card.

This move could allow Nvidia to both have a high-end/enthusiasts graphics cards with more expensive HBM2 as well as Geforce lineup with GDDR5X memory, which should have a significant effect on the supply since we already heard that HBM2 might be hard to get.
