Nvidia has announced that its Shield Android TV set-top box/console is finally coming to Europe and should be available for purchase in select European countries and select retailers as of October 1st.
Based on an octa-core Tegra X1 SoC, with four Cortex-A57 and four Cortex-A53 64-bit capable CPU cores and Maxwell 256-core GPU, the Shield Android TV is currently one of the fastest TV set top boxes on the market. It also features a microSD card slot, in case 16GB of internal storage is not enough, USB 3.0 ports, 802.11ac 2x2 MIMO WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, Gigabit Ethernet, 4K capable HDMI 2.0 output and runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop OS.
The precise dimensions of the Shield Android TV are set at 210x130x25mm and it comes with plenty of optional accessories including the stand, remote and controller.
Thanks to the recently announced Geforce Now (previously known as Nvidia GRID) you can stream PC games from the cloud or play some of exclusive Shield Android games. It also comes with support for Google Cast, Netflix 4K and Youtube 4K, KODI and PLEX.
Currently listed at Amazon.de, the 16GB version of the Shield Android TV is priced at €199.99 while the Shield Pro with Shield Controller sells for €299.99.
The Shield Stand is priced at €29.99 and Shield Remote goes for €49.99. According to what we can see, both Nvidia store as well as some well known retailers, including Alternate, Cyberport, Saturn and Amazon should have it listed.
