While we already see similar things with other manufacturers, MSI is not far behind as it has now launched the new U.2 host card, which turns the M.2 slot into an U.2 port.
The U.2 port, which was earlier known as the SFF-8639, is pretty much the same as the M.2 slot, just a bit narrower. To be precise, the U.2 actually has the same pin-count as the M.2 slot and provides the same 32Gbps bandwidth.
MSI will probably bundle the new Turbo U.2 host card with some of its flagship motherboards and will probably be available as an optional purchase, judging from the box.
There are plenty of U.2 SSDs available on the market and one of the more popular ones is the Intel SSD 750 series.
Unfortunately, MSI did not provide any details regarding which motherboard it will be bundled with and when it will be available. A quick check at our favorite price search engine shows the MSI Turbo U.2 Host Card listed for around €25.
