Gigabyte unveils Z170X-UD5 TH motherboard

Thunderbolt 3 via two USB Type-C ports

Gigabyte has unveiled its first motherboard with Thunderbolt 3 support, the Gigabyte Z170X-UD5 TH.

Based on Intel's Z170 Express chipset with support for 6th generation Core Skyalke CPUs, the Gigabyte Z170X-UD5 TH is the first motherboard to features Intel's Thunderbolt controller with the new Thunderbolt 3 protocol.

The new Thunderbolt 3 is available over two USB Type-C connectors at the back I/O and provide 40Gbps of bandwidth. The same interface also brings support for DisplayPort 1.2 and USB 3.1, allowing it to support two displays in 4K/UHD resolution at 60FPS or a single 5K display. Thunderbolt 3 over USB Type-C also brings features like PowerDelivery 2.0, which allows you to daisy-chain up to 12 devices.

The rest of the features and specifications are pretty standard for a motherboard based on Intel's Z170 Express chipset and include four DDR4 DIMM memory slots with support for up to 64GB of DDR4 memory, three PCI-Express x16 3.0 slots (working at x16,x8,x4), three SATA Express ports, six SATA 6Gbps and single M.2 socket 3 port, bunch of USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports, integrated Realtek ALC1150 audio and Intel Gigabit Ethernet.

The Gigabyte Z170X-UD5 TH also offer certain overclocking-friendly features such as onboard power, reset and clear CMOS buttons, voltage measurement points and more. The Z170X-UD5 TH is also a part of Gigabyte's Ultra Durable line of motherboard and features Black solid capacitors, DualBIOS feature and more.

Unfortunately, Gigabyte did not reveal any details regarding the price or the availability date of the new Z170X-UD5 TH motherboard.
