According to the latest research, AMD has lost even more market share and now holds less than 20 percent.
With data
coming from Mercury Research, Nvidia has kept gaining market share in discrete GPU market and according the report, Nvidia held 82 percent in the second quarter, leaving AMD with just 18 percent.
According to earlier reports, AMD held just above 30 percent of the market share but has started to lose it since Q2 2014. Of course, the market research does not include recently launched HBM-equipped Radeon Fury graphics cards which should help AMD regain some of the market share. On the other hand, AMD's new Radeon 300 series graphics cards are mostly compromised of rebrands which could significantly hurt AMD.
AMD still has to launch the AMD R9 Nano graphics card based on the same Fiji GPU and High Bandwidth Memory, and this one could help as well.
In any case, the situation is not good for AMD and hopefully the company will pull out as competition is always good for consumers.
